Shand nets hat trick, leads Metro to 12-0 win over Southern Tier

Kevin Shand lifted Metro to a 12-0 victory with a hat trick against Southern Tier.

Shand's first goal came 57 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 1:16 into the second and at 4:44 into the second.

Metro gained an early advantage, leading 5-0 by the end of the first period.

Metro was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Metro gives up 2.1 goals on average per game. Metro's offense rang up 56 shots on Southern Tier's net. Metro found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Metro has scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with five goals.

Metro additionally got points from David Chavis, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Cam Schwartz, who also had one goal and one assist, Michael Tratar, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Mathias Tellstrom, who also registered one goal and four assists, Jason Newel, who also tallied one goal and three assists, and Jason Recchia, who also had one goal and one assist. Metro also had goals scored by Mark Vansaw, Stefan Boskovic, and Jacob Rutkoske, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Spencer Graham, who had one and Jacob Gleason and Robert Flannery, who contributed two each.

Southern Tier racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Southern Tier had been spending in the box. Southern Tier was held below its usual level of production. Southern Tier averages 2.1 goals per game.

Metro's Kameron Limburg stopped 16 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Metro totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. For Metro, Noah Saad was ejected from the game. Timothy OSullivan recorded 44 saves for Southern Tier. Southern Tier registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Southern Tier ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hunter Kepple was ejected from the game.
