West Michigan wins tough contest against Wooster, 5-3

West Michigan and Wooster were evenly matched throughout their contest, but West Michigan made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

West Michigan gained the winning advantage on a goal by Dakota Ulmer 9:46 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Brendon Block was all over the ice for West Michigan, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Block scored 4:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 West Michigan. Curtis Carlson assisted on the tally.

West Michigan's penalty kill excelled, as West Michigan gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

West Michigan kept Wooster's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Morgan made 28 saves on 33 shots. West Michigan's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as West Michigan finished with 42 penalty minutes.

West Michigan additionally got points from Carlson, who also registered one goal and two assists and Tyler McMahon, who also had one goal and one assist. West Michigan also got a goal from Ryan Price as well. More assists for West Michigan came via Justin Bloomfield, Devin Farkas, and Corey Siwula, who each chipped in one.

Wooster could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wooster was led by Rubin Chavarria, who finished with two goals. Chavarria scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wooster had gotten the advantage when West Michigan's Block was sent off for roughing. Jason Watts picked up the assist. Chavarria's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 19:08 left in the third period. Mike Zenone assisted on the tally. Tyler Houmard also scored for Wooster. Other players who recorded assists for Wooster were Noah Keener, Tyler Groth, Christian Miller, and Brandon Scholze, who contributed one each.

Maxwell Barr recorded 27 saves for West Michigan. West Michigan registered three goals on eight power play opportunities.
