Helena blows out Yellowstone, 5-1Riley Arena Fri, Mar 04, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Helena had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over Yellowstone. Helena was led by goalie Grant Martens, who finished with 48 saves while allowing one goal. Martens managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.28 prior to the game. Helena was paced by John Heddle, who tallied one goal. Heddle scored 18:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Helena. Wyatt Stotts picked up the assist. Helena forced Yellowstone's goalies to work between the pipes, launching 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Lance Knudson made 28 stops and Garret Matz made three. Helena's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Yellowstone power plays. Others who scored for Helena included Bradley Estrada, who had two and Jay Forbes and Riley Keays, who scored one goal each. In addition, Helena received assists from Bryan Knesel, Tom Pratl, and John Greer, who contributed one each and Cody Vanthournout and Blake Babineau, who each chipped in two. Yellowstone put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Helena to score on any of its five power plays. Yellowstone's offense operated below its season average. Yellowstone puts an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game. Helena was unable to stop Yellowstone from sending pucks towards the net, and Yellowstone eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. Yellowstone's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Yellowstone gives up 2.5 goals per game. Yellowstone was led by Tony Dahlberg, who scored the team's only goal.
