Early goals doom Rochester, falls to North Iowa, 11-2

Rochester fell behind early, and North Iowa kept piling on the points on the way to an 11-2 victory.

Brett Gravelle had two goals and two assists to lead North Iowa. Gravelle scored the first of his two goals at 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Iowa. Sean Mallonee picked up the assist. Gravelle's next tally made the score 7-0 North Iowa with 2:57 left in the second period. Mallonee assisted on the tally.

North Iowa forced Rochester's goalies to work all game long, taking 56 shots and forcing 45 saves. Zach Mains made 32 stops and Jacob Garvey made 13. North Iowa's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, North Iowa averages 5.8 goals per contest. North Iowa's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

North Iowa additionally got points from Eric Piatt, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Adam Orn, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Joe Burgmeier, who also had one goal and one assist, Mallonee, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Connor Bump, who also had one goal and one assist. North Iowa also got a goal from Kohei Sato as well. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Tommi Ahlgren, Austin Jackson, Tommy Stang, Shane Bernhardson, and David Min, who each chipped in one and Quinn Fuchs and Marshall Barnes, who contributed three each.

Rochester was led by Nick Paulson, who tallied two goals. Paulson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:05 into the third period to make the score 9-1 North Iowa. Rochester had gotten the advantage when North Iowa's Bump was sent off for interference. Hunter Heightland picked up the assist. Paulson's next tally on the power play made the score 10-2 North Iowa with 8:45 left in the third period. Dominik Bogdzuil assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Rochester were Trey McMillen, who had one.

Ahlgren rejected 24 shots on goal for North Iowa. North Iowa incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Rochester incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
