Great Falls rolls over Helena, 5-1

Great Falls had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over Helena.

Great Falls' Jake Stephan was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Stephan will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.06.

Great Falls was led by Ricards Bernhards, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bernhards scored 4:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Great Falls. Tanner Congdon assisted on the tally.

Great Falls' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Great Falls had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Great Falls forced Helena's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 52 shots and forcing 47 saves. Adam Ranck made 33 stops and Grant Martens made 14. Great Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Great Falls got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Great Falls also got points from Josh Larson, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Congdon, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Great Falls also had goals scored by Reed Link and Miles Giorgione, who scored one goal each. More assists for Great Falls came via Arseny Ivanov, who had one and Kyle Johnson and Brendan Jester, who contributed two each.

Helena did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Helena puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Great Falls was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Helena was led by Tyler Onstott, who scored the team's only goal. Onstott scored 14:57 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Great Falls. Johnny Bonta picked up the assist.

Great Falls registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Great Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bernhards was ejected from the game. Helena incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
