Cincinnati uses shootout to best Pittsburgh, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Cincinnati defeated Pittsburgh in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. Cincinnati's other shootout goal was scored by Arsenii Vashchuk.

Justin Bioni had one goal and two assists to lead Cincinnati. Bioni scored 9:07 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cincinnati. Vashchuk provided the assist.

Cincinnati pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Cincinnati excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

Cincinnati also had goals scored by Taylor Hamilton and Albert Janele, who each put in one. In addition, Cincinnati received assists from Hunter Schneider and Trevor Veneklase, who each chipped in one.

Pittsburgh was helped by Brian Dee, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Dee scored the first of his two goals at 26 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. James Unger picked up the assist. Dee's next tally made the score 3-3 with 13:30 left in the third period. Pittsburgh additionally got points from Unger, who also had one goal and one assist. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Nicholas Lyon as well. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Perry Shiring, Brian Grant, and Gavin Cummings, who contributed one each.

Cincinnati's Tyler Geloneck stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Cincinnati registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Jacob Stack rejected 19 shots on goal for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
