Wooster's comeback falls short, West Michigan wins 6-4

Wooster almost clawed its way back from a four-goal deficit, but West Michigan managed to pull out a 6-4 win in the end.

West Michigan led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when West Michigan's Trevor Temple scored at 11:52 in the second period to put West Michigan up 5-1.

West Michigan's penalty kill excelled, as West Michigan gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

West Michigan forced Wooster goalie Joe Morgan to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. West Michigan bested its season scoring average. This season, West Michigan averages 3.7 goals per contest. West Michigan's power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on 10 chances. West Michigan could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

West Michigan was helped by Devin Farkas, who registered one goal and one assist. Farkas scored 9:48 into the first period to make the score 2-0 West Michigan. Justin Bloomfield picked up the assist. West Michigan also got points from Dakota Ulmer, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Mitch Campbell, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Charlie Osborne, who also had one goal and one assist. West Michigan also got a goal from Curtis Carlson as well. More assists for West Michigan came via John Hayward, Brendon Block, Corey Siwula, and Brandon Benaglio, who each chipped in one.

Wooster was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 85 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game Wooster had been spending in the box. Wooster stifled West Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wooster was helped by Brandon Scholze, who registered one goal. Scholze scored on the power play 4:26 into the second period to make the score 3-1 West Michigan. Wooster had gotten the advantage when West Michigan's Farkas was sent off for slashing. Ramsey Mayne provided the assist. Wooster additionally got points from Noah Keener, who also registered one goal and one assist and Daniel Nugent, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Will Schober also scored for Wooster. In addition, Wooster received assists from Mike Zenone, who had two and Nick Tobey, Christian Miller, and Jason Watts, who contributed one each.

Maxwell Barr made 20 saves for West Michigan on 24 shots. Wooster's Morgan stopped 43 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Team's Kyle Pfaffinger and Tobey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
