Valenza's big game bests Louisiana in 5-4 Sugar Land win

Sugar Land's Luca Valenza had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 5-4 win over Louisiana.

Valenza found the back of the net 17:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Sugar Land and again while short handed 14:09 into the third to make the score 5-4 Sugar Land.

Louisiana's power play was ineffective against Sugar Land's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Sugar Land put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Louisiana to score on any of its six power plays. Sugar Land's offense rang up 33 shots on Louisiana's net.

Sugar Land additionally got points from Zac McKenna, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chris Conlin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Sugar Land also got a goal from RC Randall as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sugar Land were Kevin Mackey, who had two and Trevor Wolf, Alex Norwinski, Matt DeNure, and Jonathan Adnell, who contributed one each.

Louisiana stifled Sugar Land's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Louisiana was led by Jacob Istre, who grabbed two goals and two assists. Istre scored the first of his two goals at 3:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Miko Siren picked up the assist. Istre's next tally made the score 4-3 Louisiana with 19:13 left in the third period. Davis VanGemerden provided the assist. Louisiana also got points from VanGemerden, who also racked up two goals and one assist.

Mackey rejected 18 shots on goal for Sugar Land. Sugar Land incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sean Angle recorded 28 saves for Louisiana. Louisiana incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
