Wisconsin beats Rochester 5-0 as McConnell gains shutout

Max McConnell recorded a shutout against Rochester as Wisconsin picked up a 5-0 win.

Wisconsin was sparked by Russel Barone, who racked up one goal. Barone scored on the power play 3:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wisconsin. Wisconsin had gotten the advantage when Rochester's Colby DeCarlo was sent off for cross checking. Thomas Hanson assisted on the tally.

Wisconsin excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Wisconsin was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Wisconsin averages 2.5 goals allowed per game. Wisconsin's offense rang up 39 shots on Rochester's net.

Wisconsin additionally got points from Peter Henderson, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wisconsin also had goals scored by Connor Boscaccy, Nick Miller, and Matt Resch, who each put in one. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Austin Lewis, who had two and Alec Artuso and Matthew Carr, who contributed one each.

Rochester could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Rochester puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. Rochester forced Wisconsin goalie McConnell to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

McConnell recorded 34 saves for Wisconsin. Wisconsin totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Rochester's Zach Mains stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Rochester incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
