Early goals doom Glacier, falls to Billings, 9-1

Glacier fell behind early, and Billings kept piling on the points on the way to a 9-1 victory.

Billings was led by goalie Brandon Brown, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Brown managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.37 prior to the game.

Chris Nicolai was all over the ice for Billings, as he tallied one goal and four assists in the win. Nicolai scored on the power play 9:44 into the second period to make the score 8-0 Billings. Billings had gained a power play chance when Tyler McMahon was whistled for roughing. Tristan Henrichs picked up the assist.

Billings was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Billings surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Billings forced Glacier's goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots and forcing 25 saves. Mikhail Pahrebets made 14 stops and Kevin Hale made 11. Billings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Glacier to score on any of its eight power plays. Billings' goal total was higher than its season average. Billings averages 2.7 goals per game. Billings' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in four goals.

Billings additionally got points from Zach Heiser, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Connor Melton, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Dillon Steh, who also had one goal and one assist, and Henrichs, who also registered two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Billings included Kenneth Miller, Jacob Yoho, and Wolfgang Davis, who each put in one. In addition, Billings received assists from Roy Aharonovich, who had two, Mason Graves, who had four, and Chad Stucker and Edward Hoppmann, who contributed one each.

Glacier's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Glacier had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Billings registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Billings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Lange was ejected from the game. For Glacier, McMahon was ejected from the game.
