Minnesota vanquishes Alexandria in shootout, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Minnesota defeated Alexandria in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Minnesota came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minnesota was down 1-0 after a goal by Alexandria's Trent Olson at 5:46 in the second period. Minnesota knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Kyle Wendorf at 1:59 in the third period.

Minnesota's Dakota McDonald was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. McDonald certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 5.05 entering the contest.

Minnesota's offense rang up 35 shots on Alexandria's net.

More assists for Minnesota came via Tyler Leverty and Frankie Moore, who contributed one each.

Alexandria's offense operated below its season average. Alexandria averages 3.6 goals per game. Alexandria forced Minnesota goalie McDonald to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

In addition, Alexandria received assists from Mason Hautala and Louis Gerzin, who each chipped in one.

Minnesota avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of zero power plays. Chance Kremer recorded 33 saves for Alexandria. Alexandria ended with no penalties and went 0-for-0 on the power play.
