Nicolai's hat trick boosts Billings over Glacier, 7-5

Chris Nicolai lifted Billings to a 7-5 victory with a hat trick against Glacier.

Nicolai notched his first tally eight seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 8:35 into the second and at 10:05 into the third.

Billings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Glacier to score on any of its five power plays. Glacier was unable to stop Billings from sending pucks towards the net, and Billings eventually piled up 62 shots on goal. Billings outdid its season average for goals scored. Billings has scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Billings also got points from Zach Heiser, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Connor Melton, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Dillon Steh, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tristan Henrichs, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Billings received assists from Kenneth Miller, Jacob Yoho, Jeremy Vandekerkhove, and Cameron Birklid, who each chipped in one.

Glacier excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Glacier forced Billings goalie Brandon Brown to work between the pipes, taking 61 shots. Glacier bested its season scoring average. Glacier averages 2.3 goals per game.

Glacier was led by Collin Schieman, who tallied one goal and three assists. Schieman scored 29 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Glacier. Tyler McMahon picked up the assist. Glacier additionally got points from Brandon Huntington, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Glacier included Wyatt Fretheim and William Bostwick, who scored one goal each. More assists for Glacier came via Ronald Robertson and Brett LeBeau, who contributed one each.

Brown recorded 56 saves for Billings. Billings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Glacier's Kevin Hale stopped 55 shots out of the 62 that he faced. Glacier incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
