Helena beats Bozeman 5-4 after comeback scare

Helena survived a determined comeback attempt by Bozeman on the way to a 5-4 win.

Helena made the score 4-0 on a goal by Johnny Bonta at 11:29 in the first period, and Bozeman got as close as 5-4 when Casey Gobel scored 15:09 into the third period.

Helena got the win thanks to a great game by Ryan Daugherty, who had two goals and two assists. Daugherty scored the first of his two goals at 9:34 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Helena. Tom Pratl provided the assist. Daugherty's next tally made the score 5-2 Helena with 6:02 left in the second period. Helena had taken the advantage when Bozeman's Zach Frasier got sent off for head contact. Brandon Mills assisted on the tally.

Helena was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Helena also got points from Wyatt Stotts, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Helena also got a goal from Cody Vanthournout as well. More assists for Helena came via Drake Hill and Jarrett Scheibel, who contributed one each.

Bozeman was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. Bozeman surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Bozeman additionally got points from Nicholas Thompson, who also had one goal and one assist. Bozeman also had goals scored by Elliott Hopkins and Kegan Couture, who each put in one. In addition, Bozeman received assists from Steven Nisbet, who had one and Gunnar Mogck, who had two.

Adam Ranck recorded 21 saves for Helena. Helena incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Stephen Frank took the loss and made 21 saves before being replaced by Charlie Smart who made one save. Bozeman registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
