Toledo's comeback falls short, Pittsburgh wins 4-2

Pittsburgh, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Toledo and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Pittsburgh led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Pittsburgh's Perry Shiring scored on the power play at 4:03 in the second period to put Pittsburgh up 3-0.

Pittsburgh excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Pittsburgh got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Pittsburgh was helped by Gavin Cummings, who registered one goal. Cummings scored 16:19 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pittsburgh. Devin Sroka picked up the assist. Pittsburgh additionally got points from Nicholas Lyon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. James Unger also scored for Pittsburgh. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Brian Grant, Nick Hawkins, Brian Dee, and Vincent Casale, who each chipped in one.

Toledo kept Pittsburgh's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jacob Stack made 41 saves on 43 shots. Toledo's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Toledo was helped by Blake Mullins, who grabbed one goal. Mullins scored 16:58 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Pittsburgh. Nikolas Verbosky provided the assist. Toledo also got a goal from David Bogart as well. Other players who recorded assists for Toledo were Austin Turner, Shane Dunsmore, and Nick Papandrea, who contributed one each.

Pittsburgh incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Toledo's Glen Bates stopped 19 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Toledo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
