Nashville uses big second period to beat Atlanta, 8-4

Nashville scored five goals in the second period to pull away from Atlanta and clinch an 8-4 win.

Nashville got the win on the strength of a great game by Trent Kulczyk, who had one goal and two assists. Kulczyk scored 12:02 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Nashville.

Nashville's penalty kill excelled, as Nashville gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Nashville forced Atlanta's goaltenders to work in net, launching 35 shots and forcing 27 saves. Aleksandr Zendejas made 11 stops and Corey Boettcher made 16. Nashville bested its season scoring average. Nashville averages 4.0 goals per game. Nashville was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 13 chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Nashville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes.

Nashville also got points from Max Dorfman, who also registered one goal and one assist and Nicholas Redmon, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Nashville also had goals scored by Peter Cabala, Logan Orem, Brock James, and Kristers Petraskevis, who each put in one. In addition, Nashville received assists from Riley McCann, Michael Redmon, Kyle Van Wyk, and Dylan Schmidt, who each chipped in one.

Atlanta's offense rang up 34 shots on Nashville's net. Atlanta's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Atlanta finished with 36 penalty minutes.

Atlanta was led by Ross Bartlett, who racked up one goal and one assist. Bartlett scored on the power play 2:00 into the second period to make the score 2-2. An elbowing penalty on Dorfman had put Atlanta on the power play. Jack Cleaver picked up the assist. Others who scored for Atlanta included Kyle Rimbach, Evan Camba, and Alex Johanson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta were Philip Pugliese, who had two and Jacob Roers and Arturas Laukaitis, who contributed one each.

Nicholas Ottenbacher made 30 saves for Nashville on 34 shots.
