Yellowstone squeaks by Billings, 3-2

Yellowstone gutted out a close 3-2 win against Billings.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Drew Nelson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Yellowstone pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 32 penalty minutes.

Yellowstone was led by Nelson, who finished with one goal. Nelson scored 19:55 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Yellowstone. Nick Greene provided the assist.

Yellowstone excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 11 chances. Yellowstone's offense rang up 45 shots on Billings' net.

Yellowstone additionally got points from Curtis Greenbush, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jake Dickison also scored for Yellowstone. Other players who recorded assists for Yellowstone were Vadym Nesteruk, Tony Dahlberg, Will Landsverk, and Matt Runyon, who each chipped in one.

Billings forced Yellowstone goalie Evan Eriksmoen to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Billings was helped by Roy Aharonovich, who had one goal. Aharonovich scored 14:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tristan Henrichs picked up the assist. Billings also got a goal from Keith Gustin as well. In addition, Billings received assists from Mason Graves, who had one.

Eriksmoen recorded 32 saves for Yellowstone. Yellowstone registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Billings' Brandon Brown stopped 42 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Billings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
