Southern Tier falls apart in second, loses to Toledo, 6-0

Southern Tier was within striking distance after one period, but Toledo put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-0 victory.

Toledo was led by Josh Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored 16:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toledo. Ricky Kwapich assisted on the tally.

Toledo forced Southern Tier's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Ryan Forman made 41 stops and Ryan Pascarella made one. Toledo's goal total was higher than its season average. Toledo averages 3.6 goals per game. Toledo's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Toledo also got points from Nikolas Verbosky, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Toledo also had goals scored by David Bogart, Shane Dunsmore, Josh Somers, and Nick Nappi, who scored one goal each. Southern Tier averages 2.4 goals per game. Southern Tier's offense was handcuffed by Toledo's defensive play, and Southern Tier managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

Cody Gibson rejected 14 shots on goal for Toledo. Toledo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Southern Tier incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
