Helena downs Billings in overtime, 7-6 (OT)

Wyatt Stotts gave Helena a 7-6 (OT) victory over Billings when he scored 53 seconds into the extra period.

With three goals and three assists between them, Stotts and Jarrett Scheibel teamed up to power Helena's offense. Stotts finished with two goals and one assist and Scheibel also notched one goal and two assists.

Billings was unable to stop Helena from sending pucks towards the net, and Helena eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Helena surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Helena averages 4.0 goals per game. Helena's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Helena could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 50 minutes in penalties during the game.

Helena also got points from Johnny Bonta, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Ryan Daugherty, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Scheibel, who also registered one goal and two assists, and John Greer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Riley Keays also scored for Helena. In addition, Helena received assists from Brandon Mills, who had three and Tom Pratl and Drake Hill, who contributed one each.

Billings was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Billings surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Billings forced Helena's goaltenders to work without much rest, launching 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Adam Ranck made 18 stops and Alex Kruger made 17. Billings bested its season scoring average. Billings has scored at the pace of 2.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Billings was helped by Tristan Henrichs, who had two goals and two assists. Henrichs scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Billings. Billings had gained a power play chance when Bradley Estrada was whistled for holding. Zach Heiser provided the assist. Henrichs' next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Billings with 3:23 left in the third period. Billings had gotten the advantage when Helena's Jay Forbes was sent off for holding. Connor Melton picked up the assist. Billings additionally got points from Heiser, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Melton, who also registered one goal and two assists, Mason Graves, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Chris Nicolai, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Billings came via Cameron Birklid, who had one.

Helena registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Helena ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cody Vanthournout was ejected from the game. Gage Overby recorded 33 saves for Billings. Billings registered four goals on 13 power play opportunities. For Billings, Dillon Steh was ejected from the game.
