Toledo survives La Crosse comeback, wins 5-3Schwan SR-8 Fri, Dec 18, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Toledo came close to giving away a three-goal lead to La Crosse, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. Toledo led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Toledo's Alec Walny scored short handed at 15:21 in the third period to put Toledo up 6-3. Toledo got the win behind a great game by Josh Somers, who had two goals and one assist. Somers scored the first of his two goals at 9:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Austin Turner provided the assist. Somers' next tally made the score 3-2 La Crosse with 15:42 left in the second period. Turner assisted on the tally. Toledo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. Toledo stifled La Crosse's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. La Crosse was unable to stop Toledo from sending pucks towards the net, and Toledo eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Toledo additionally got points from David Bogart, who also registered one goal and one assist and Tyler Zalecki, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Isaiah Crawford also scored for Toledo. In addition, Toledo received assists from Ricky Kwapich and Nick Papandrea, who contributed one each. La Crosse forced Toledo's goalies to work in net, launching 35 shots and forcing 32 saves. Cody Gibson made 21 stops and Glen Bates made 11. La Crosse was helped by Jerame Schuetzle, who tallied one goal. Schuetzle scored 1:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 La Crosse. Dylan Leiverman provided the assist. La Crosse also got points from Ben Johnson, who also had one goal and one assist and Daniel Toycen, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for La Crosse were JP Eykyn, Alexander Rickoff, and Jared Bromberg, who each chipped in one. Toledo registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Garret Matz recorded 29 saves for La Crosse. La Crosse incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For La Crosse, Eykyn and Ben Henderson were ejected from the contest.
