Rochester squeaks by Chicago, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Rochester escaped with a 6-4 victory over Chicago.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Dan Trageser's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Rochester got the win on the strength of a great game by Trey McMillen, who had one goal and three assists. McMillen scored 19:21 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Rochester. Nick Paulson provided the assist.

Chicago was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Rochester was able to score four times while on the power play.

Rochester's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 33.0 minutes per game Rochester had been spending in the box. Rochester kept Chicago's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alec Paloumpis made 37 saves on 43 shots. Rochester bested its season scoring average. Rochester has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Rochester additionally got points from Hunter Heightland, who also had one goal and two assists, Colby DeCarlo, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Paulson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Rochester came via Dylan Boysen and Garrett Strom, who contributed one each.

Chicago did not rack up many penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Chicago finished with less than its 36.0 minutes average penalties per game. Chicago surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, Chicago averages 1.8 goal per contest.

Chicago was helped by Timothy Hoffenkamp, who finished with one goal and two assists. Hoffenkamp scored on the power play 18:37 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Chicago. Chicago had gotten the advantage when Rochester's Kenny Ree was sent off for cross checking. David Rutkowski picked up the assist. Others who scored for Chicago included Oliver Breton, Jake Borth, and Daniel Spano, who each put in one. In addition, Chicago received assists from Travis Marsh, who had one and Luke Borth, who had three.

Kyle Plantz rejected 21 shots on goal for Rochester. For Rochester, Sam Bjellum was ejected from the game. Chicago registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
