Wisconsin takes care of Chicago early, wins 16-0

Wisconsin opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 16-0 win over Chicago.

Ben Ratner had two goals and five assists to lead Wisconsin. Ratner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wisconsin. Wisconsin earned a power play opportunity when Vaughn Clouston was put in the box for cross checking. Connor Busch picked up the assist. Ratner's next tally on the power play made the score 10-0 Wisconsin with 2:12 left in the second period. Alec Artuso provided the assist.

Wisconsin pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

Wisconsin forced Chicago's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 70 shots and forcing 54 saves. Alec Paloumpis made 34 stops and Sergey Markelov made 20. Wisconsin's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Chicago power plays. Wisconsin was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. Wisconsin averages 2.8 goals allowed per game. Wisconsin found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Wisconsin averages 5.0 goals per contest. The defensemen of Wisconsin were also effective in Chicago's zone, and came away with two goals.

Wisconsin also got points from Busch, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Thomas Hanson, who also registered one goal and two assists, Connor Boscaccy, who also had two goals and two assists, Joe Perrelle, who also racked up two goals and two assists, Matthew Carr, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Nathan Viberg, who also registered one goal and two assists, Ethan Luck, who also had one goal and two assists, Taylor Dickert, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Matt Resch, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wisconsin also got a goal from Austin Lewis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wisconsin were Bryce Fisk, who had three, Nick Miller and Zac Shenderovsky, who contributed one each, and Clayton Brown and Jake McNamara, who each chipped in two.

Roni Sener made 17 saves for Wisconsin on 17 shots. Wisconsin registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Chicago incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
