Piehler nets hat trick, leads Granite City to 5-1 win over Breezy Point

Breezy Point could not stop Granite City's Michael Piehler, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win.

Piehler got on the scoresheet 9:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:55 into the third and at 11:37 into the third.

Granite City additionally got points from Matt Flom, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Andrej Jamnicky also scored for Granite City. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were Braden Altena, Will Mix, and Alex Durand, who contributed one each and Casey Esselman and Tanner Skaja, who each chipped in two.

Breezy Point could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Breezy Point was led by Alec Hooper, who scored the team's only goal. Hooper scored on the power play 13:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Breezy Point had taken the advantage when Granite City's Mathew Sprink got sent off for charging. Jake Tomkowiak picked up the assist.

Mac Berglove made 16 saves for Granite City on 17 shots. Granite City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Breezy Point's starting goalie, Wes Paupore, made 20 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Christian Sanzottera, who stopped zero shots. Breezy Point registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
