Evansville's comeback falls short, Atlanta wins 6-5

Atlanta, which led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Evansville and clinched a 6-5 victory.

Atlanta led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Atlanta's Artus Laukaitis scored at 17 seconds in the second period to put Atlanta up 3-0.

Riley Hummitsch had a great game for Atlanta, netting two goals. Hummitsch scored at 11:45 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Atlanta and again while on the power play 11:27 into the third to make the score 6-5 Atlanta.

Atlanta forced Evansville goalie Adam Conkling to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots. Atlanta got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Atlanta additionally got points from Aleksi Hoivala, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Alex Johanson also scored for Atlanta. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta were Drew Kelly, Kyle Rimbach, Evan Camba, Bear Ross, Steve MacIver, Ryan Dumond, and Ross Bartlett, who each chipped in one.

Evansville's goal total was higher than its season average. Evansville averages 2.3 goals per game.

Evansville was led by Jon Grimm, who registered two goals and three assists. Grimm scored the first of his two goals at 1:53 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Atlanta. Michael Kelley assisted on the tally. Grimm's next tally made the score 4-3 Atlanta with 7:28 left in the second period. Evansville had gotten the advantage when Atlanta's Drake Cartwright was sent off for elbowing. Kelley picked up the assist. Evansville also got points from Kelley, who also had one goal and three assists and Brandon Bornkamp, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. In addition, Evansville received assists from Brian Crink, who had one and Triston Theriot, who had two.

Parks Ownesby made 15 saves for Atlanta on 20 shots. Atlanta incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Conkling rejected 52 shots on goal for Evansville. Evansville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
