West Michigan rips Southern Tier, 7-4

West Michigan had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-4 win over Southern Tier.

Brandon Benaglio was all over the ice for West Michigan, as he registered two goals in the win. Benaglio's tallies came short handed at 15:50 into the second period to make the score 5-4 West Michigan and 8:25 into the third to make the score 7-4 West Michigan.

West Michigan pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 38 penalty minutes.

West Michigan forced Southern Tier's goalies to work all game long, finishing with 52 shots and forcing 45 saves. Ryan Pascarella made 43 stops and Jared Hebner made two. West Michigan bested its season scoring average. This season, West Michigan averages 3.8 goals per contest. West Michigan was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

West Michigan additionally got points from Dakota Ulmer, who also had one goal and one assist. West Michigan also had goals scored by Devin Farkas, who had two and Trevor Temple and Brendon Block, who scored one goal each. In addition, West Michigan received assists from Chase Whallon, who had two and Samuel Woznicki, Grant Denton, Kyle Nikles, Christian Amend, Mitch Kalleward, Connor Henderson, Justin Bloomfield, John Hayward, and TJ Krajewski, who contributed one each.

Southern Tier could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Southern Tier was helped by Nathan Butkowski, who racked up one goal. Butkowski scored 1:00 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Joshua Malin picked up the assist. Southern Tier also got points from Justin Andriaccio, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Curtis Carlson, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Elijah Williams also scored for Southern Tier. More assists for Southern Tier came via Brian Grant and Luke Grossman, who each chipped in one.

West Michigan's Woznicki stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. West Michigan ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bloomfield was ejected from the game. Southern Tier registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
