Great Falls outlasts Helena, 3-2

Great Falls gutted out a close 3-2 win against Helena.

Great Falls gained the winning advantage on a goal by Austin Krantz 8:28 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Great Falls was paced by Blake Miller, who finished with one goal. Miller scored 19:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Great Falls. Krantz picked up the assist.

Great Falls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Great Falls had been spending in the box.

Great Falls also got points from Josh Larson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Krantz, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Great Falls also got a goal from Adam Apangalook as well. More assists for Great Falls came via Arseny Ivanov, Stevan Goran, Reed Link, and Miles Giorgione, who contributed one each.

Helena kept Great Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Stephan made 29 saves on 31 shots. Helena had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Helena was helped by Ryan Daugherty, who had one goal. Daugherty scored on the power play 3:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Helena had taken the advantage when Great Falls' Ivanov got sent off for head contact. Blake Babineau provided the assist. Helena additionally got points from Johnny Bonta, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Brandon Mills and John Greer, who each chipped in one.

Great Falls registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Great Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ivanov was ejected from the game. Grant Martens rejected 27 shots on goal for Helena. Helena incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
