St. Louis beats Peoria 7-0 as Young gains shutout

Zach Young was superb between the pipes for St. Louis, as he did not allow a goal in a 7-0 victory over Peoria.

St. Louis got the win thanks to a great game by Alex Klaesner, who had two goals and two assists. Klaesner scored the first of his two goals at 5:39 into the second period to make the score 3-0 St. Louis. Tomas Loeffelman provided the assist. Klaesner's next tally made the score 6-0 St. Louis with 12:38 left in the third period. CJ Nitchen assisted on the tally.

St. Louis forced Peoria's goaltenders to work without much rest, firing 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ross Lipic made 22 stops and Derek Fitzgerald made five. St. Louis excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. St. Louis could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Louis additionally got points from Sam Maddox, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Frankie Melton, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Louis also had goals scored by Dominic Caito, Daniel Dunaway, and Frankie Cardinale, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Hayden Smer, who had two and Ryan Reader, Brian Schumacher, Sean Griffin, and Alex Werdmuller, who contributed one each.

Peoria could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Peoria averages 3.6 goals per game. Peoria forced St. Louis goalie Young to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Peoria could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Young rejected 39 shots on goal for St. Louis. St. Louis registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
