Wooster uses shootout to best Pittsburgh, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Wooster defeated Pittsburgh in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Pittsburgh's shootout goal was scored by Gavin Cummings. In addition to the clincher, Wooster got a shootout goal from Tyler Houmard.

Pittsburgh's power play was ineffective against Wooster's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Wooster forced Pittsburgh goalie Jacob Stack to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Wooster was helped by Christian Miller, who tallied one goal. Miller scored 2:32 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wooster. Tyler Crites picked up the assist. Mike Zenone also scored for Wooster. In addition, Wooster received assists from Houmard and Carmon Teel, who contributed one each.

Pittsburgh was helped by James Unger, who had one goal. Unger scored on the power play 19:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wooster. Pittsburgh had gained a power play chance when Zenone was whistled for high sticking. Kenny White assisted on the tally. Pittsburgh also got a goal from Connor Ackerman as well. More assists for Pittsburgh came via Vincent Casale, Darrien Sroka, and Cummings, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Spencer made 28 saves for Wooster on 30 shots. Wooster incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Stack recorded 43 saves for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
