Atlanta hangs on, beats Sugar Land 7-5

Atlanta took the lead against Sugar Land in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 7-5 victory.

A goal 10:30 into the first period by Kyle Rimbach proved to be the game winner, and powered Atlanta to the victory. Jack Cleaver assisted on the tally.

Atlanta got the win behind a great game by Alex Johanson, who had one goal and two assists. Johanson scored 9:42 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Atlanta. Colin OConnor picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, Sugar Land was led by Luca Valenza, who registered two goals. Valenza scored the first of his two goals at 9:12 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Atlanta. Zac McKenna provided the assist. Valenza's next tally made the score 5-4 Atlanta with 9:21 left in the second period. Sugar Land played down a man on RC Randall's tripping.

Atlanta forced Sugar Land's goalies to work between the pipes, totaling 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Daniel Mignault made 29 stops and John Capparelli made six. Atlanta excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Atlanta's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Atlanta additionally got points from Rimbach, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Artus Laukaitis, who also had one goal and two assists, Frank Trazzera, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Ryan Dumond, who also registered one goal and one assist, and OConnor, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Atlanta also got a goal from Dylan Wattles as well. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Philip Pugliese, who had two and Aleksi Hoivala and Jacob Roers, who each chipped in one.

Sugar Land also got points from Randall, who also had one goal and one assist and Matt Cozzan, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Alex Norwinski also scored for Sugar Land. Other players who recorded assists for Sugar Land were Joseph Brochu, Keegan Chesnick, Chris Conlin, and Jonathan Adnell, who contributed one each.

Atlanta took out Alekandr Zendejas after he had made four saves and installed Corey Boettcher in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the win. Atlanta incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sugar Land incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
