Helena shrugs off penalties, upends Bozeman, 4-1

Bozeman failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Helena shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-1.

Helena was sparked by Cody Vanthournout, who had one goal and one assist. Vanthournout scored on the power play 7:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Helena. Helena had gotten the advantage when Bozeman's Elliott Hopkins was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Jay Forbes provided the assist.

Helena put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bozeman to score on any of its seven power plays. Helena's offense rang up 33 shots on Bozeman's net.

Helena also got points from Michael Ballard, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Helena included John Greer and Blake Babineau, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Ryan Daugherty, Brandon Mills, Matt Blassic, and Gavin Lubin, who contributed one each.

Bozeman was held below its usual level of production. Bozeman averages 4.7 goals per game.

Bozeman was led by Kegan Couture, who scored the team's only goal. Couture scored 14:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Helena. Gunnar Mogck picked up the assist.

Grant Martens recorded 23 saves for Helena. Helena incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Stephen Frank made 29 saves for Bozeman on 32 shots. Bozeman incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
