Minnesota squeaks by Rochester, 5-3

Minnesota and Rochester were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Minnesota made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Kyle Wendorf at 2:52 of the third period.

With three goals and two assists between them, Alec Skar and Wendorf teamed up to power Minnesota's offense. Skar finished with two goals and one assist and Wendorf also notched one goal and one assist.

Minnesota excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Rochester was unable to stop Minnesota from sending pucks towards the net, and Minnesota eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Minnesota found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Minnesota averages 2.8 goals per contest.

Minnesota additionally got points from Jace Cseter, who also registered one goal and one assist and Wendorf, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ty Ennis also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Wyatt Toll, Lucas Mickelson, Frankie Moore, and Jacob Aberwald, who contributed one each.

Rochester was led by Jon Roth, who had two goals. Roth scored the first of his two goals at 12:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rochester. Colin Hess picked up the assist. Roth's next tally made the score 3-1 Rochester with 18:28 left in the second period. Griffen Buck provided the assist. Rochester also got a goal from Dominik Bogdzuil as well. More assists for Rochester came via Hunter Heightland and Jake Kelly, who each chipped in one.

Dakota McDonald made 27 saves for Minnesota on 30 shots. Minnesota incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Rochester's Zach Mains stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Rochester incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
