Matz leads La Crosse to shutout victory over ChicagoRomeoville 2 Sun, Oct 04, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Garret Matz made 27 saves to complete the shutout and led La Crosse to a 6-0 win against Chicago. La Crosse's penalty kill excelled, as La Crosse gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. La Crosse stifled Chicago's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chicago was unable to stop La Crosse from sending pucks towards the net, and La Crosse eventually piled up 58 shots on goal. La Crosse was helped by Ben Henderson, who registered one goal and one assist. Henderson scored 4:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 La Crosse. Daniel Toycen provided the assist. La Crosse additionally got points from Toycen, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Matt Wolter, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for La Crosse included Reed Kelly and Sam Dabrowski, who each put in one. More assists for La Crosse came via Taylor Trapp, who had three and Eric Weber, Justin Edwards, Alexander Rickoff, Hunter Breza, and Colin Huffman, who each chipped in one. Chicago could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game. La Crosse incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jimmy Smith rejected 52 shots on goal for Chicago. Chicago ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Howard was ejected from the game.
