Huge game by Siwula boosts West Michigan over Southern Tier, 5-1

Corey Siwula was all over the ice for West Michigan, as he tallied two goals and one assist in West Michigan's 5-1 win over Southern Tier.

Siwula scored on the power play at 7:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 West Michigan and again while short handed 12:07 into the second to make the score 4-1 West Michigan.

West Michigan was led by goalie Samuel Woznicki, who finished with 42 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Woznicki will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.92.

West Michigan forced Southern Tier's goaltenders to work all game long, firing 50 shots and forcing 45 saves. Cody Gibson made 45 stops and Tyler Geloneck made zero. West Michigan stifled Southern Tier's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of West Michigan were also effective in Southern Tier's zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for West Michigan included Justin Bloomfield, Brendon Block, and Devan Bayne, who scored one goal each. More assists for West Michigan came via Chase Whallon, who had two and Gabe Smith and Davis Hudson, who each chipped in one.

Southern Tier's offense rang up 43 shots on West Michigan's net.

Southern Tier was led by Curtis Carlson, who scored the team's only goal. Carlson scored 9:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 West Michigan. Elijah Williams assisted on the tally.

West Michigan incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Southern Tier incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
