Chicago's comeback falls short, La Crosse wins 5-3

La Crosse, which led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Chicago and clinched a 5-3 victory.

La Crosse led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when La Crosse's Ben Henderson scored on the power play at 17:00 in the first period to put La Crosse up 4-0.

Henderson had a great game for La Crosse, netting two goals.

La Crosse forced Chicago's netminders to work in net, finishing with 44 shots and forcing 39 saves. Dalton Baker made 12 stops and Jimmy Smith made 27. La Crosse was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances.

La Crosse also got points from Taylor Trapp, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for La Crosse included JP Eykyn and Jacob St. Andre, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for La Crosse were Alexander Rickoff, Hunter Dolan, Daniel Toycen, Grant Scharmer, Dylan Goggin, and Hunter Breza, who each chipped in one.

Chicago forced La Crosse goalie Andrew Wagner to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Chicago was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Chicago was helped by Stefan Vlad, who finished with one goal. Vlad scored 3:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 La Crosse. David Rutkowski picked up the assist. Chicago additionally got points from Timothy Hoffenkamp, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Scott Coash Jr. also scored for Chicago. In addition, Chicago received assists from Michael Howard, who had two.

Andrew Wagner made 36 saves for La Crosse on 39 shots. La Crosse ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. La Crosse ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scharmer was ejected from the game. Chicago registered two goals on two power play opportunities.
