Pursuit of Excellence 16U uses shootout to best Thunder Bay Kings 16U, 2-1

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Pursuit of Excellence 16U defeated Thunder Bay Kings 16U in a shootout 2-1.

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Thunder Bay Kings 16U got shootout goals from Quintin Loon-Stewardson and Fletcher Anderson. In addition to the clincher, Pursuit of Excellence 16U got shootout goals from Luke Harvie and Chase Sakic.

Pursuit of Excellence 16U came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pursuit of Excellence 16U trailed 1-0 after a goal by Thunder Bay Kings 16U's Loon-Stewardson at 46 seconds in the first period. Pursuit of Excellence 16U knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Harvie at 16:54 in the first period.

Pursuit of Excellence 16U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Thunder Bay Kings 16U to score on any of its seven power plays.

Other players who recorded assists for Pursuit of Excellence 16U were Dylan Hilman, who had one.

Thunder Bay Kings 16U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Pursuit of Excellence 16U power plays.

In addition, Thunder Bay Kings 16U received assists from Justin Stewart and Michael Larizza, who contributed one each.

Joel Hofer recorded 27 saves for Pursuit of Excellence 16U. Pursuit of Excellence 16U ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Pursuit of Excellence 16U ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nolan Dawson was ejected from the game. Scott Adams made 22 saves for Thunder Bay Kings 16U on 23 shots. Thunder Bay Kings 16U incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
