Omaha AAA 18U outlasts Pursuit of Excellence 18U, 4-3

Omaha AAA 18U gutted out a close 4-3 win against Pursuit of Excellence 18U.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Drew Pflug's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Omaha AAA 18U got the win on the strength of a great game by Pflug, who had one goal and two assists. Pflug scored on the power play 12:45 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Omaha AAA 18U. Omaha AAA 18U had gained a power play chance when Ryan Butler was whistled for holding. Nicholas Caprio picked up the assist.

Omaha AAA 18U's penalty kill excelled, as Omaha AAA 18U gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Omaha AAA 18U forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Omaha AAA 18U had been spending in the box. Pursuit of Excellence 18U was unable to stop Omaha AAA 18U from sending pucks towards the net, and Omaha AAA 18U eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Omaha AAA 18U additionally got points from Caprio, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Omaha AAA 18U also had goals scored by Shayne Monahan and Jasper Weatherby, who each put in one. In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from TJ Polglaze and Dane Johnson, who contributed one each.

More assists for Pursuit of Excellence 18U came via Juanre Naude and Lucas Wong, who each chipped in one.

Gavin Hubbard made 17 saves for Omaha AAA 18U on 20 shots. Omaha AAA 18U registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Omaha AAA 18U, Polglaze and Jaden Anderson were ejected from the contest. Jordan Wilde recorded 35 saves for Pursuit of Excellence 18U. Pursuit of Excellence 18U incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
