St. Louis Selects 18U vanquishes Esmark Stars 18U in shootout, 2-1

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as St. Louis Selects 18U defeated Esmark Stars 18U in a shootout 2-1.

The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams. Esmark Stars 18U's shootout goal was scored by Brendan Johns. In addition to the clincher, St. Louis Selects 18U got a shootout goal from Samir Abouelhana.

St. Louis Selects 18U came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Louis Selects 18U trailed 1-0 after a goal by Esmark Stars 18U's Hunter Fraser at 6:41 in the first period. St. Louis Selects 18U knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Justin Meers at 9:38 in the first period.

St. Louis Selects 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Esmark Stars 18U to score on any of its seven power plays. St. Louis Selects 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, St. Louis Selects 18U received assists from Jake Russo and Abouelhana, who contributed one each.

Esmark Stars 18U excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Esmark Stars 18U was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 16 penalty minutes.

More assists for Esmark Stars 18U came via Cam Williams and Johns, who each chipped in one.

John Massara made 25 saves for St. Louis Selects 18U on 26 shots. Joseph Hubert recorded 21 saves for Esmark Stars 18U.
