New York outlasts Jersey Shore, 4-2

New York and Jersey Shore were evenly matched throughout their contest, but New York made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Martin Grinberg's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

New York was sparked by Grinberg, who grabbed one goal. Grinberg scored 2:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 New York. Alexei Pilatsky assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Jersey Shore was paced by Freddie Schaljo, who finished with two goals. Schaljo scored the first of his two goals at 13:00 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Marcus McCall provided the assist. Schaljo's next tally made the score 2-2 with 39 seconds left in the second period. Tyler Goclan picked up the assist.

New York stifled Jersey Shore's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. New York forced Jersey Shore goalie Scott Albertoni to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

New York also got points from Daniel Backstrom, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dominick Sacco, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Phillip Garcia also scored for New York. In addition, New York received assists from Jimmy Warrick, who had two and Eric Hewitt and Sam Shaheen, who each chipped in one.

Jersey Shore was held below its usual level of production. Jersey Shore puts an average of 5.9 pucks into the net per game. New York was unable to stop Jersey Shore from sending pucks towards the net, and Jersey Shore eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Stephen Mundinger rejected 37 shots on goal for New York. New York incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jersey Shore's Albertoni stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Jersey Shore incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
