Gauvin's big game bests Skylands in 6-1 New England win

Behind a great game by Ryan Gauvin, who had one goal and three assists, New England defeated Skylands, 6-1.

Gauvin beat Mathias Yttereng with a shot 7:34 into the third period to make the score 3-1 New England. Cam Webster assisted on the tally. Gauvin dished an assist on Jake Latham's goal that made the score 1-0 New England at 14:59 into the first period. He then added assists on Webster's goal at 9:56 into the third and on Latham's goal at 13:07 into the third.

Skylands was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as New England was able to score four times while on the power play.

New England forced Skylands' goaltenders to work between the pipes, ripping 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Yttereng made 35 stops and Ryan Bartholomew made zero. New England stifled Skylands' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

New England additionally got points from Webster, who also racked up one goal and one assist. New England also had goals scored by Brendan Miller and Brandon Hamner, who scored one goal each. More assists for New England came via Aidan Conlon, who had three and Brian Glover, Nolan Arbuckle, Tim Paige, and John Krapian, who each chipped in one.

Skylands could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Skylands averages 4.2 goals per game. Skylands was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Skylands was led by Nicholas King, who scored the team's only goal. King scored 15:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cole Skelly picked up the assist.

New England's Robbie Campbell stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. New England incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Skylands registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
