Syracuse vanquishes Roc City in shootout, 9-8 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Syracuse defeated Roc City in a shootout 9-8 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Syracuse overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Syracuse was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Roc City's Anthony DePetres at 17:32 in the first period. Syracuse tied things up at 8-8 on a power play goal by Raymond Rowe at 13:01 in the third period.

Syracuse kept Roc City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Patrick Massey made 41 saves on 50 shots. Syracuse outdid its season average for goals scored. Syracuse has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Syracuse was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 42 penalty minutes.

Syracuse was led by Hunter Soden, who finished with three goals and one assist. Syracuse additionally got points from Ryan Gilroy, who also had one goal and one assist, Nate Walker, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Nicholas Chalifoux, who also registered one goal and one assist. Christian Paradiso also scored for Syracuse. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Tucker Bartenslager, who had three and Kelsey Head, Richard Hart, Dan Buehler, and Rocco DeRollo, who contributed one each.

Roc City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Roc City surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Syracuse was unable to stop Roc City from sending pucks towards the net, and Roc City eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Roc City surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Roc City averages 4.5 goals per game.

Roc City was helped by Justin Allen, who finished with three goals and one assist. Roc City also got points from Cameron Clark, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Matt Corey, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Brandon Corey, who also registered one goal and two assists, and DePetres, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Roc City also got a goal from Cory Della Stua as well. Other players who recorded assists for Roc City were Aidan Conolly and Sam Haile, who each chipped in one and Robert Vasta and Sam Cammilleri, who contributed two each.

Kyle VanWagner rejected 43 shots on goal for Syracuse. Syracuse registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Roc City registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Roc City, Bryan Smith was ejected from the game.
