Huge game by Backstrom boosts New York over Maine, 11-3

Daniel Backstrom was all over the ice for New York, as he tallied two goals and four assists in New York's 11-3 win over Maine.

Backstrom found the back of the net short handed 17:48 into the first period to make the score 3-1 New York and again while 15:17 into the third to make the score 11-1 New York.

New York kept Maine's goalie busy throughout the game, and Robson Stewart made 45 saves on 56 shots. New York surpassed its usual scoring output this season. New York averages 4.9 goals per game. New York's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

New York also got points from Eric Hewitt, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jimmy Warrick, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Dominick Sacco, who also finished with two goals and one assist, and Nick Jean-Louis, who also racked up two goals and one assist. New York also had goals scored by Sean Lake and Gunther Stange, who each put in one. In addition, New York received assists from Ricky Regala, who had six and Philip Pistraya and Augie Onorato, who contributed one each.

Maine racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Maine surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Maine forced New York's goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 32 shots and forcing 29 saves. Lane Gregory made 10 stops and Anthony DiGiorgio made 19.

Maine was led by Noel Fischer, who had two goals and one assist. Fischer scored the first of his two goals at 15:48 into the first period to make the score 2-1 New York. Zach Gagne picked up the assist. Fischer's next tally made the score 11-2 New York with 4:03 left in the third period. Maine earned a power play opportunity when Stange was put in the box for roughing. Shayne Plummer provided the assist. Maine additionally got points from Plummer, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Maine came via Greg Terlov, who had one.

New York incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Maine registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Maine, Sedrick Simons was ejected from the game.
