Huge game by Della Stua boosts Roc City over Syracuse, 7-1Morrisville IcePlex Sat, Jan 23, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Cory Della Stua was all over the ice for Roc City, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Roc City's 7-1 win over Syracuse. Della Stua got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 1:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Roc City. Matt Corey picked up the assist. Della Stua dished an assist on Jared Tam-Grimshaw's goal that made the score 5-0 Roc City at 18:47 into the first period. He then added assists on Corey's goal at 19:03 into the second and on Sam Cammilleri's goal at 19:58 into the second.Syracuse was stymied by Roc City's netminder Ian Stahl, who stopped 42 shots during the victory. Stahl managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 5.2 prior to the game. Syracuse's power play was ineffective against Roc City's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Roc City forced Syracuse's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Timothy Evans made nine stops and Ryan Scheide made 19. Roc City stifled Syracuse's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Roc City outdid its season average for goals scored. Roc City averages 4.4 goals per game. Roc City found itself short handed often, totaling 38 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Roc City also got points from Corey, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Tam-Grimshaw, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Cammilleri, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Roc City included Cameron Clark and Brandon Corey, who scored one goal each. More assists for Roc City came via Anthony DePetres, who had three and Bryan Smith and Justin Allen, who contributed one each. Syracuse's offense rang up 43 shots on Roc City's net. Syracuse also got a goal from Nate Walker as well. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Ryan Gilroy and Dan Buehler, who each chipped in one. Roc City registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Syracuse incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
