Jessman's big game bests Maine in 9-6 Cape Cod win

Mike Jessman was all over the ice for Cape Cod, as he tallied two goals and four assists in Cape Cod's 9-6 win over Maine.

Jessman's tallies came at 16:55 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Cape Cod and on the power play 12:14 into the third to make the score 7-6 Cape Cod.

Maine fell victim to a deadly Cape Cod power play, which ripped Maine for four goals.

Cape Cod kept Maine's goalie busy throughout the game, and William Dunham made 45 saves on 54 shots. Cape Cod outdid its season average for goals scored. Cape Cod has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Cape Cod's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Cape Cod is averaging 2.2 goals against for the season. Cape Cod got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Cape Cod additionally got points from Dylan Legarie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Chuck Costello, who also had two goals and three assists, and Eric Szeker, who also registered two goals and three assists. Cape Cod also had goals scored by Chris Lovell and Karl-Eric Demers, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cape Cod received assists from Maxime Dordet, who had two and Zack Goodman, Anthony Giannelli, and Chris ODonnell, who contributed one each.

Maine forced Cape Cod's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 44 shots and forcing 38 saves. Anton Zemba made 19 stops and Clayton Pierce made 19. Maine bested its season scoring average. Maine averages 2.4 goals per game. Maine could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Maine was led by Noel Fischer, who finished with two goals and three assists. Fischer scored the first of his two goals short handed at 8:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cape Cod. Maine was on a disadvantage when Ryder Parkhurst went off the ice for slashing. Fischer's next tally short handed made the score 6-4 Maine with 5:13 left in the second period. Zach Gagne picked up the assist. Maine also got points from Gagne, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Parkhurst, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Shayne Plummer, who also registered two goals and one assist. More assists for Maine came via Collin Fader, who had one and Matt Jerome, who had two.

Cape Cod incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Maine registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Maine ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Parkhurst was ejected from the game.
