New York uses early goal to top Jersey Shore, 4-2

New York took the lead against Jersey Shore in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

New York took over the lead for good with a goal by Daniel Backstrom at 7:14 in the first period. Nick Jean-Louis picked up the assist.

New York got the win with help from a great game by Backstrom, who had two goals and one assist. Backstrom scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New York. New York had gotten the advantage when Jersey Shore's Christian Cooley was sent off for tripping. Robert Kalata assisted on the tally. Backstrom's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 New York with 12:46 left in the first period. Jean-Louis provided the assist.

New York excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. New York's offense rang up 50 shots on Jersey Shore's net.

New York also got points from Jimmy Warrick, who also registered one goal and one assist and Sam Shaheen, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for New York were Eric Hewitt, who had one.

Jersey Shore did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Jersey Shore puts an average of 7.0 pucks into the net per game. Jersey Shore forced New York goalie Stephen Mundinger to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Jersey Shore was helped by Freddie Schaljo, who grabbed one goal. Schaljo scored 4:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. John Rubin picked up the assist. Jared Karas also scored for Jersey Shore. In addition, Jersey Shore received assists from Zach Roth, Bogdan Khvatov, and Dylan Plsek, who contributed one each.

Stephen Mundinger made 44 saves for New York on 46 shots. New York incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Breadan Colgan rejected 46 shots on goal for Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
