Cape Cod vanquishes New England in shootout, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Cape Cod defeated New England in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. New England's shootout goals were scored by Kyle Weiss and Jake Latham. Cape Cod's other shootout goals were scored by Mike Jessman and Chris ODonnell.

New England's power play was ineffective against Cape Cod's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Cape Cod was helped by Joe Brennan, who registered one goal. Brennan scored 15:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. James Brosnan provided the assist. Cape Cod additionally got points from Aaron Deady, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cape Cod also had goals scored by Frank Oakley and Jessman, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cape Cod came via Chuck Costello, who had two and Maxime Dordet and ODonnell, who each chipped in one.

New England put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cape Cod to score on any of its five power plays. New England's offense rang up 47 shots on Cape Cod's net.

New England was helped by Ian Gately, who had one goal. Gately scored 6:38 into the third period to make the score 3-2 New England. Latham assisted on the tally. New England also got points from Steve Crocker, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ryan Gauvin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Weiss also scored for New England. Other players who recorded assists for New England were Brian Glover, Nolan Arbuckle, Ian McNamara, Brendan Miller, and John Krapian, who contributed one each.

Clayton Pierce made 43 saves for Cape Cod on 47 shots. Cape Cod incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Robbie Campbell recorded 23 saves for New England. New England incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
