New York rips Syracuse, 6-1Floyd Bennett Field - Hanger 5 Fri, Sep 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
New York had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over Syracuse. Jimmy Warrick had two goals and one assist to lead New York. Warrick scored the first of his two goals short handed at 11:10 into the second period to make the score 2-0 New York. New York was on a disadvantage when Eric Hewitt went off the ice for cross checking. Warrick's next tally short handed made the score 6-1 New York with 10:48 left in the third period. Daniel Backstrom picked up the assist. Syracuse was stymied by New York's netminder Stephen Mundinger, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Mundinger certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.14 entering the contest. Syracuse was unable to stop New York from sending pucks towards the net, and New York eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. New York was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. New York also got points from Robert Kalata, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New York included Martin Grinberg, Sam Shaheen, and Ryan Poirier, who scored one goal each. In addition, New York received assists from Tristian Malone, Augie Onorato, and Ricky Regala, who each chipped in one. Syracuse forced New York goalie Mundinger to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Syracuse was led by Dan Buehler, who scored the team's only goal. Buehler scored on the power play 11:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New York. Ludovic Scott assisted on the tally. New York registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Ryan Scheide made 27 saves for Syracuse on 33 shots. Syracuse totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
