Butler stymies Nepean, Kanata wins 6-1Jack Charron Arena Sat, Feb 27, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Alex Butler helped the Kanata Lasers defeat the Nepean Raiders, 6-1. Kanata was led by Tyler Young, who had one goal. Young scored 4:33 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. Mike McArthur assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:09 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Lasers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Kanata averages 1.9 goal per game. The Lasers were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. Kanata also got points from Guisten Annetta, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle Dowdall, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Declan Hilton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Jacob Balca, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ciaran Morgan also scored for Kanata. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Sam Tremblay, who had two, Joey Laird, who had three, and Brady Cloutier and Johnny Pickering, who each chipped in one. Nepean racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Raiders surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Nepean was led by PJ Heger, who scored the team's only goal. Heger scored on the power play 13:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kanata. The Raiders had gained a power play chance when Hilton was whistled for tripping. Corey Tam picked up the assist. Alex Butler made 28 saves for Kanata on 29 shots. The Lasers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kanata ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Yannick Martel was ejected from the game. Nepean's Jack Ondrovic stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Raiders registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Nepean, Ugo Roik was ejected from the game.
