Brockville holds on for 6-5 win against CumberlandNavan Memorial Centre Sun, Jan 31, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Brockville Braves held on for a 6-5 victory. A goal by Neil Robinson put Brockville up 6-4 in the third period, but Cumberland pulled to within one on Zackhary Salloum's tally 16:38 into the third period. Jack Billings had two goals and three assists to lead the Braves. Billings scored the first of his two goals at 14:29 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Brockville. Andrew Jarvis assisted on the tally. Billings' next tally made the score 5-4 Brockville with 16:34 left in the third period. A slashing penalty on Mathieu Dubois had put Brockville on the power play. Vincenzo Renda picked up the assist. The Braves kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Coughlin made 25 saves on 31 shots. Brockville bested its season scoring average. The Braves average 3.3 goals per game. Brockville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 16 penalty minutes. Brockville also got points from Ian Johnston, who also registered one goal and four assists and Robinson, who also had two goals and one assist. Brockville also got a goal from Michael Murray as well. In addition, Brockville received assists from Cameron Crotty, who had one. The Braves were unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Cumberland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. Cumberland additionally got points from Salloum, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Michael Larose, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Shawn Cameron also scored for Cumberland. More assists for Cumberland came via Jared Leslie, who had two and Marc-Olivier Bouchard, Branden Makara, and Simon Besner, who each chipped in one. Henry Johnson rejected 43 shots on goal for Brockville. The Braves registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Grads registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
