Kemptville beats Cumberland 5-3 after comeback scare

The Cumberland Grads tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Kemptville 73s held on for a 5-3 victory.

Kemptville made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jason Tackett at 10:28 in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 5-3 when Zackhary Salloum scored 14:24 into the third period.

The Grads' power play was ineffective against the 73s' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Kemptville kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Thierry Messervier made 40 saves on 45 shots. The 73s could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kemptville was helped by Cameron Bisson, who finished with one goal. Bisson scored 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyson Kirkby picked up the assist. Kemptville also got points from Adam Alavi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Tackett, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kemptville included Matt Tugnutt and Alex Row, who each put in one. More assists for Kemptville came via Kaelan OFlynn, Neal Samanski, Matthew Titus, Cameron Russell, Brandon Cole, and Bobby Dow, who each chipped in one.

The Grads forced the 73s goalie Peter Brooks to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Cumberland was helped by Cody Kyle, who racked up one goal. Kyle scored 8:59 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Kemptville. Simon Besner assisted on the tally. Cumberland additionally got points from Salloum, who also had one goal and one assist and Shawn Cameron, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Mathieu Dubois, Raphael Larose, and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.

Brooks rejected 34 shots on goal for Kemptville. The 73s registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
