Pembroke beats Brockville 6-2 as Varrin gets hat trick

Derek Varrin netted a hat trick to lead the Pembroke Lumber Kings over the Brockville Braves, 6-2.

Varrin's first goal came 9:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:26 into the second and at 50 seconds into the third.

Brockville trailed by one after the first period, but Pembroke went into the second intermission with a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

The Braves fell victim to a deadly the Lumber Kings power play, which ripped Brockville for four goals.

Pembroke forced Braves' goalies to work all game long, totaling 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Michael Cerasuolo made 19 stops and Henry Johnson made 13. The Lumber Kings bested their season scoring average. Pembroke averages 3.1 goals per game. The Lumber Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Tyler ONeill also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Johnny Kyte, Fraser Turner, Chris Minns, Andre Simard, Ben VanOoteghem, and Brett Horn, who contributed one each and Patrick Kyte and Alex Gilmour, who each chipped in two.

The Braves' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Brockville had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Braves kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gabe Mollot-Hill made 35 saves on 37 shots. Brockville was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

For the Braves, Alexander Sifton and Vincenzo Renda were ejected from the contest.
