Carleton Place wins tough contest against Pembroke, 4-2Pembroke Memorial Center Sun, Jan 10, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Carleton Place Canadians gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Pembroke Lumber Kings. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Braedyn Asselstine's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Lucas Batt had a great game for Carleton Place, netting two goals. Batt's tallies came at 17:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 15:35 into the third to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place. The Canadians kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Boyd Diclemente made 36 saves on 40 shots. Carleton Place additionally got points from Asselstine, who also registered one goal and one assist. Connor Merkley also scored for Carleton Place. More assists for Carleton Place came via Kyle Dowdall, Bryce VanHorn, Brett Murray, Tim Theochardis, Maxime StPierre, and Alex Friesen, who each chipped in one. The Lumber Kings were helped by Ben VanOoteghem, who racked up one goal. VanOoteghem scored 15:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Mitchell Culver picked up the assist. Pembroke also got a goal from Wesley Ashley as well. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Johnny Kyte, Cale List, and Chris Minns, who contributed one each. James Edwardson rejected 28 shots on goal for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Pembroke incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
